I am a volunteer research assistant at MARC Lab, part of the Department of Computer Engineering at University of Peradeniya, where I work on 3D computer vision and HCI. My advisor is Prof. Roshan Godaliyadda.

From 2022 - 2024, I worked at Codification, as a Consultant Platform Engineer. Previously I have also worked Open University (FT), NSBM Green University (FT), University of Kelaniya (PT), and Informatics Institute of Technology (PT) as a Lecturer. I'm also a recipient of the Most Valuable Professional(MVP) Award from Microsoft.

I have an MSc in Big Data Analytics from Robert Gordon University, UK, where I did research with Dr Sameera Viswakula's lab. I have a BSc(1st) in Software Engineering from University of Plymouth, where I worked with Dr Rasika Ranaweera's lab.

Augmented reality to improve motor functions and cognitive abilities of early childhood education

I. Ekanayake and R. Ranaweera ACM SIGCHI Winter School – South Asia, 2023

AR mobile application that enables children to play and learn musical instruments by experiencing and interacting with them. Concepts from cognitive psychology were used to ground this user study (i.e., constructivism, neuroconstructivism)

Data visualization using augmented reality for education: A systematic review

I. Ekanayake and S. Gayanika International Conference on Business and Industrial Research (ICBIR), 2022 DOI/PDF (Paywalled)/PDF/Presentation

We applied the PRISMA framework and identified 30 state-of-the-art works in augmented reality for education. The insights and potential future directions identified in this review later influenced my undergraduate research.

Ongoing Research

Some of these works have been submitted to peer-reviewed conferences/journals and are awaiting acceptance, while others are still in progress.
